  3. For Masala--
  4. 4 green chillies
  5. 2 small inch cinnamon sticks

  8. 1 pinch nutmeg powder
  9. 2 inches ginger
  10. 15 garlic cloves
  11. 15 shallots
  12. 1/2 tsp fennel seeds
  13. For rice--
  14. 2 teaspoons ghee
  15. as required Oil
  16. 1/2 tsp chilli powder
  17. 1/2 cup curd
  18. as per taste Salt
  19. 1/2 cup mint leaves
  20. 1 cup coriander leaves
  21. 1/2 lime juice

Instructions to make to make Thalapakatti style Mutton Biryani

  1. Wash and soak the rice at least for 30 mins.
  2. Grind all the ingredients in masala paste with little water and keep aside.
  3. Heat oil and ghee in a pressure cook and add the ground paste to it. Add mutton pieces and 2 cups of water and salt.
  4. Add in the curd and chilli powder to it.
  5. Mix well and cook the mutton in the masala for min 20 mins in medium flame. Remove it from flame and wait for fir pressure to drop.
  6. Fish out the mutton pieces and measure the water after taking mutton out. Add water 2x times rice. If 2 cup water is there add 2 more cups to cook rice.
  7. Add chopped coriander, mint and lemon juice and bring it to boil. Add the rice and cook in a closed lid.
  8. When rice is 3/4 done.add the mutton pieces and further cook it for few more minutes. And let it remain closed for a while.,and switch off the flame.
  9. The rice absorbs all the flavors during this time.Serve it with raita and pappad.
